We are Jort, Simone and Nila.
Crete is a place we keep coming back to. There is something special about this island. Maybe it's the combination of the wonderful climate, stunning landscapes, relaxed atmosphere and incredible food and drinks. Or perhaps it's the people, who are always friendly, welcoming and proud of their island. Whatever it is, we don't quite know, but every time we arrive, it instantly feels like coming home.
Over the years, we've explored more and more of Crete. From charming cities and authentic mountain villages to hidden beaches, cosy tavernas and breathtaking natural landscapes. And with every trip, we continue to discover new favourite places.
How The Crete Guide Started
What began as a collection of tips for friends and family slowly grew into something bigger.
We kept getting the same questions:
- Where should we stay?
- Which region suits us best?
- What are your favourite restaurants?
- Which beaches shouldn't we miss?
After creating countless lists, we decided to bring everything together in one place. That's how The Crete Guide was born.
A personal travel guide where we share our favourite places, experiences and tips. Not just the well known highlights, but also the hidden gems that make a holiday truly memorable.
Our Connection with Crete
Our love for Crete eventually became so strong that we decided to create our own place on the island: Villa Nila, named after our daughter.
Our home is currently being built and we look forward to discovering even more of Crete in the years ahead and creating wonderful memories here with family and friends.
